2011 NEXT STEPS CIGS TRAINING PROGRAM AT WOODSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Through a partnership between The Vigor Consortium and the Excel After-School Program, NEXT Steps provides CIGS Training to 5th graders at Woodson Elementary School.
To help the kids decide wanted to grow, the wanted to grow, the kids helped NEXT Steps set up the Spice It Up! tasting station. We introduced the kids to over 34 spices -- many of which they had never heard of or seen before (including honey and Worcestershire sauce). The kids were given the name and a brief history of the spice, smelled their aromas and then tasted them. Some of the more memorable spices sampled were nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, lemon zest, spearmint, and minced garlic. Needless to say, we ended the year with a bang!
