With great pride, The National Black Men's Health Network and Profast Development Group salutes a roster of trailblazing African American men whose life's works have positively impacted the lives of others. By out-pacing their hardships, these men have demonstrated exceptional levels of strength, courage and determination while gaining a more in-depth knowledge of what makes them who they truly are today.
"To our dear brothers, colleagues, associates and friends . . . We salute you!"

In today’s media and global teachings, the perception of Black men are
not usually favorable. Sure, we hear stories of a brother’s success and
contribution to society or their family or community, however their sacrifice
is overshadowed by the constant drive to teach the world how to fear us,
shame us, refuse us, attack us, divide us and eventually destroy us
(mentally, physically and spiritually). The images displayed in the multi-
media world that we bring into our homes and schools via marketing,
technologies, and visual imagery gives subliminal and direct messaging
that says we are inferior, we are absent, and we are the detriment
towards and cause of the social ills of the world. But I and those in this
room can attest that that is not true…especially when as a population we,
as African Americans, only make up 13% of the US Population.
Though, if you do the math, it makes common sense that that perception
doesn’t add up. However, when you deliver a message through a mass
medium, and replay it over and over again, our 13% presence is now
perceived to be a world dominating figure. That, my friend, is the power
of perception.
So what’s a Brother to do? Live respectable lives? We’re already doing
that. Be an example of what we preach. Look around the room tonight.
You can see we’re already doing that as well. Change the way society
perceives us? Absolutely. But….that’s definitely easier said than done.
So how do we do that? We speak with one voice….and that is what the
Making of Men Honors Program is for.
Unlike most programs that give you a pat on the back and send you back
home, The Making Of Men Honors Program is part of a very large master
plan that includes the development of a powerful marketing mechanism
that promotes our individual autonomy under the umbrella of a single
mission. Through strategic planning, a community involvement growth
model, and a network that connects us to our original roots and
contributions in education of the science, technology, engineering,
mathematics and urban agriculture industries, we can collectively use our
combined, single voice to say “No, THIS is who we are”.
