Outdoor Activity Center, Inc
West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA)

The Outdoor Activity Center serves as a sister site to Atwood Community Gardens.
Located approximately 2-3 minutes away, this 23 year old urban forest and nature
center (the first in Atlanta) is a conservation resource and neighborhood treasure .
Twenty-six acres of mature piedmont forest, plenty of urban wildlife and historic Bush
Mountain are at this site.

This facility is designed with kids in mind. Located just a few miles from downtown, the
on up. Among the learning facilities are a tree house classroom, a 650-gallon
freshwater aquarium, and an interactive ecological playground called Naturescape.
Nature tours, educational programs, and a wide range of special events are offered
throughout the year.

The Wetlands Boardwalk at Atwood Community Gardens
(FUTURE DEVELOPMENT)
The Wetlands Boardwalk at Atwood Community Gardens will be used to
incorporate the mission of The Georgia No Child Left Inside (NCLI)
Coalition to help raise awareness about the importance of nature for
children’s mental and physical health. In partnership with the Georgia
Wildlife Federation, we will:
  • Ensure safe and healthy outdoor environments for children to
    experience nature directly;
  • Encourage and support individuals and organizations working to
    connect people and nature; and
  • Instill a lifelong love of nature, the outdoors, and healthy and
    sustainable lifestyles.

Our Program Specialties
Outdoor Nation Campus Club

Through the Outdoor Nation initiative, The National Park Service and The
Outdoor Foundation have joined with The North Face to address this head on
by launching a major national program that will leverage and strengthen the
existing network of outdoor clubs on college campuses across the country.
Transforming these traditional outdoor clubs into powerful Outdoor Nation
hubs, college students will be charged with expanding the club concept into
high schools ‐‐ introducing younger peers to outdoor experiences and
opportunities. The program provides a high profile way for universities to:
connect with the local community, build on existing outdoor, environmental and
sustainability efforts and give students a great learning and leadership
experience.
